Preserve evidence while the response proceeds.
The response to an incident can change the evidence. Logs rotate, memory is cleared, systems are reimaged, and backups are restored. A forensic approach accounts for those risks while the organization works to restore operations.
E-Hounds preserves and examines the record in parallel with containment. The analyst directing the forensic work can reconstruct the timeline, document the methods, and testify to the findings.
What the response can cover.
Ransomware and extortion
Examination of encryption events and suspected exfiltration. We assess evidence of access and data movement, reconstruct initial access and dwell time, and preserve records for counsel, insurers, and ensuing proceedings.
Insider activity and data exfiltration
Endpoint imaging and cloud-account review for suspected unauthorized access, departing-employee data transfers, and internal fraud. Acquisition is documented under chain of custody.
Business email compromise and wire fraud
Mail-server logs, mailbox rules, forwarding settings, and authentication records examined to reconstruct compromised-account activity and payment diversion.
Network intrusion
Memory acquisition, log review, and analysis of persistence, lateral movement, and indicators of compromise. Reporting is prepared for technical response teams and outside counsel.
A record counsel can work from.
The forensic record can inform notice decisions, insurance claims, civil recovery, and criminal referrals. We document what was preserved, what the evidence shows, and where information is incomplete.
Containment and restoration affect what can be examined. We record those decisions and their effect on the evidence so the resulting findings can be explained and reviewed.
Scoping the engagement.
Describe the incident, the affected systems, and any steps already taken to contain or restore them. Include known preservation needs and deadlines. Our office is also reachable at (727) 726-8985 during business hours.
